The PoDQA tool has been developed to make the automatic application of the PDQM Data Quality Model possible.
This model has been developed to represent the user or data consumer perspective in assessing the quality of data in Web portals.
This model is composed of a set of data quality attributes which are used to measure the quality of a portal.
These attributes are organized within a structure which divides the PDQM into four data quality submodels or categories:
Intrinsic: This category represents the quality which the data themselves have, which is to say that the quality depends upon the data themselves.
For example, the “accuracy” attribute is a part of this category.
Operational: This category represents the importance of the role of information systems in aspects such as data accessibility, security levels, personalisation and collaboration etc.
For example, the “accessibility” attribute is part of this category.
Contextual: This category highlights the necessity of establishing the fact that data quality should be considered within the context in which the data are
used and of the task which is being carried out. For example, the “completion” attribute, which is strictly dependant upon the task being carried out, is part of this category.
Representation: This category indicates that the system should present the data in such a way as to be interpretable, easy to understand, and that they
are represented in a concise and consistant manner. For example, “interpretability” is part of this category.
This structure allows PoDQA tool sufficient flexibility for it to be able to assess data quality in a partial way,
either for one or more of the previously mentioned caregories, or globally by applying it to the whole model.
